Victoria Camille, formerly known as Victoria Shah, is a dedicated native Detroiter and a passionate advocate for community safety and police accountability. As a candidate for District 7 Police Commissioner, she embodies the belief that the police force must operate under the strict subordination of civil authority, as stated in the Detroit City Charter.

Fueled by her commitment to fostering community engagement, Victoria co-founded the Grand River Community Block Club in 2020 to address neighbors’ desires for a safer, cleaner, and more peaceful neighborhood. As an active member of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement since 2022, she has participated in three national conferences focused on policing reforms.

Victoria made history in 2023 by becoming the first woman officially appointed as Secretary to the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners. She is also an integral member of the Coalition for Police Transparency and Accountability, working tirelessly to ensure that voices of the people are heard and respected in matters of public safety.

Her advocacy extends beyond policing; whether addressing issues of public safety, wellness, environmental justice, or food sovereignty, Victoria champions community choice, empowerment, engagement, and education. She has collaborated with various organizations, including Riverwise Magazine, Birwood House, James and Grace Lee Boggs Center, Food Justice Fridays, Littlefield Community Association and Greening of Detroit to drive positive changes in the community.

A proud mother of two adult children and a loving caretaker to three cats and three dogs, Victoria finds joy in gardening, reading, cooking, prayer, and reflection. When not advocating for justice or drafting policies, she enjoys camping and fostering community connections through shared meals and conversations.

Victoria holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Davenport University and possesses over 20 years of leadership experience. She is a certified Wilderness EMT and a nationally registered EMT. She is committed to studying Natural Medicine, emphasizing the interconnectedness of public safety, wellness, environmental justice, and food sovereignty.
